We are a small company here in Portland and would like our website redesigned. This would be a terrific contract position for a grad student or a graduate who wants to build out the web part of their portfolio. The contractor would do the work outside of our offices and present design pieces as they are finished.

We have a programmer who can set up the design work as asp. pages; he codes HTML etc. so you don't have to be able to do the HTML BUT you must be able to design something that is web workable. If this is of interest, please send me examples of your design skills and at least a couple of websites you have designed . If it looks like there could be a fit, I'll send you the creative brief, it is long but very exacting with regard to the outcomes we are looking to achieve.

1. Meet with MESO clients.

Be ready to sit down with our clients. Be prepared with questions and use positive language. Remember that the client is also part of your team. Listen to them and make suggestions. Educate them as you go. Part of our job as Designers is to show our client the value of our ideas. This is educating them about design, communicating and defining their message, business and audience.

We all come into this course with a various skill set and technical skills. Each of us has strengths and weakness when it comes to web site design skills and website technical skills. The most important thing to remember is that we are all working a team. We learn from each other, we share information with each other, we learn together and we will make a project together. Let’s determine what additional technical skills each of you would like to work on and set up a schedule for doing tutorials. We will be using Dreamweaver as our primary WYSIWY editor tool. Some of you might wish to use other tools. You are welcome to use any tool you need to. Just keep in mind that documents will be shared with other and the team need to agree on the tools for development from the beginning. There are lots of ways to program and develop a site. There are a lot of available technology too. It's important to develop the site within your ability as a team.

Start by making a list of skills you would like to learn or review. I would like to have everyone lead the class through a tutorial. It is an important skill to have when working as a team. Learn to communicate skills and teach others as, other will teach you along the way. We will make a schedule for the tutorials and presenters.

Interactive media design and development for internal and external community clients. Design solutions are presented, critiqued, and revised based on initial and ongoing client contact. Sites are developed, deployed, tested, and maintained on web servers. Team-based design and development process is coordinated through project management practices. Emphasis is placed on strategic and tactical design process, industry standards, usability studies, business proposals, design documents, and other professional practices.

Prerequisites: Art 341, 342

1. Development of design and production skills based on professional standards.
2. Development of business and project management skills required for client work.

Attendence Policy

Attendance:

Class Attendance is essential to do well in this course. We will be covering a lot of technical and theoretical information. As a result, attendance is mandatory. Arriving late, leaving early or failing to attend class will directly effect your grade as described below. Students are allowed one excused absence during the term to allow for illness or personal circumstances. If four classes are missed, an automatically F [=failure] will be given. This does not mean you are allowed to miss three.

One absence= Allowed
Two absences= 5 pts off final grade [half a letter]
Three absences= 10 pts off final grade [one full letter]
Late Arrivals = 2.5 pts off
